O Blessed Lord, accept this burning candle as a sign of my faith and love for you. Like this candle, I am ready to be used in your service, without asking why and to what purpose. Even as this candle, I wish to stand in your presence to be consumed in the light and warmth of your love. Please hear my prayer and, if it be your will, grant my petition. Above all, make me loyal and faithful to you in all circumstances of my life.
Amen.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
One of the most iconic sites in Catholic Churches throughout the world are stands of votive candles. Lit for intercessions, or to remember a loved one, these candles burn day and night as a sign of the impassioned prayer of those who lit them.
The term “votive” comes from the Latin word votum, which means a vow, pledge or religious undertaking or promise. It can also mean a prayer. Catholics light candles to pray for their deceased loves ones, the sick, the health and welfare of family and friends, and for the needs of our worldwide family. In the lighting of candles, we not only pray, but our prayers become symbols of the One Light of Christ, “the Light of the World.”.
Fill out the form on the right if you would like us to light a candle on your behalf at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church. The candles will be lit at our Saturday evening mass.
This service is free, though we do encourage a donation of $1.00 per candle to assist with the costs of maintaining the candles. Your gift is fully tax-deductible and is a true blessing to us in our ministry.
